Cabbage and Salt Meat

Eat this dish on New Year's for good luck.

 

1 Lb. lean salt meat, cut in pieces

water

1 head cabbage, cut in chunks

1/2 small onion, chopped

1/2 teaspoon red pepper

Put salt meat into a pot with enough water to cover it. Boil until meat is tender. (Replenish water as needed.) Pour off water. Add cabbage, onion, and pepper. Add enough water to cover the contents of the pot. Simmer for about 20 minutes. Serve with cornbread.
