Spicy Apple Doughnuts

2 eggs, beaten
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. salad oil
1 c. applesauce
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Beat eggs and sugar until light. Add oil, applesauce and milk; beat until smooth. Sift remaining ingredients together; stir into applesauce mixture. Chill for 1 hour. Pat out on floured board to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with doughnut cutter. Fry in deep fat at 375 degrees until lightly browned. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with additional sugar. NOTE: Dough may be used in doughnut maker. Yield: 4 dozen.
